Kyra Jane Clothing: Behind the Brand
Kyra Jane Clothing
Behind the Brand
Where Did It All Start?:
Kyra's grandmother, Patricia Jane, had her own linen clothing line (Patricia j originals) for years. She worked up to having her own shop in the small downtown in Kyra's hometown and had a couple employees. She then decided to move her sewing shop to a shop beside her house and continued to sew but did mostly wholesale. Around three years ago she decided to stop sewing altogether and around one and half years ago Kyra started dreaming of how she could keep her grandmother's vision alive.
She decided to focus on retail / made to order and loved the idea of working with such a beautiful sustainable fabric, linen. Being able to provide quality clothing that was not only useful and durable, but also makes you feel pretty.
So she dove in head first trusting her dreams; since then she has stayed enthused and hopes this little passion project grows more over the years.
How Are Your Clothes Made?:
Kyra uses 100% linen fabric from a mill in England called Merchant and Mill they ship to her directly from their shop so there is no middle man warehousing fabric or adding a mark up. Their linen is OKEO Tex certified and they are transparent with their dye processes. Linen is a very sustainable fabric itself, using less water than cotton to grow. It is biodegradable when not dyed and wicks away moisture without holding bacteria. One of the oldest fabrics around, it is very durable and makes for very long lasting garments.
Each piece from her shop is made to order which cuts out so much waste! You can customize sleeve or skirt lengths and also reach out to her with sizing questions. She also keeps her larger scraps for small projects or donates them.
The Team:
Kyra Jane Clothing is currently a one woman show with Kyra working from her home, but she dreams of employing one or two women someday and working out of a studio/shop.
The Inspiration:
Her clothes are inspired by a minimalist design; each piece looks effortless, put together, and simple. Comfort also plays a big role with less structured fits to allow different body types to feel comfortable and to add mobility; we shouldn’t feel constricted and awkward in linen.
In Conclusion:
If you are looking for a small, sustainable business to support with one-of-a-kind pieces this is the brand for you.
