Behind the Brand

Where Did It All Start?:

Genia originally studied and worked in theatre design, she wanted to gain more sewing and patternmaking knowledge so she attended fashion school.  Upon graduating from Fashion Design school she knew she wanted to be a designer with her own label.  Genia presented her first collection two years ago with Fashion Preview, a Montreal fashion show, and from there worked on her brand aesthetic and core products.  She is inspired by her theatre background and finds a lot of enjoyment in seeing women wear her designs out in the real world.

How Are Your Clothes Made?:

It begins with the fabric, either organic materials undyed and unbleached or locally sourced deadstock.  Genia naturally hand dyes the fabric in her brand colors, lavender, and tangerine.  Genia works with a local patternmaker to develop and grade her styles.  Every piece is made to order, hand-cut, and sewn in her Montreal home studio.

The Inspiration:

Genia is inspired by different forms of storytelling.  She is drawn to colors and prints as a means to communicate a soft, romantic aesthetic.  Her goal is to make garments that make women feel beautiful and empowered, something they will cherish for a lifetime.
