How to Plan and Create a 10x10

A 10x10, of what?  Of clothes, 10 items for 1o days.

Why?
~

The purpose of a 10x10 is to see how many outfits you can make with 10 items for 10 days from clothes and shoes you already own in your closet.

How do you plan for one?
~
  • Check the weather.  Is it going to be hot, cold, or in between?  Will it rain, snow, etc?
  • Check your planner.  What kind of activities will you be doing?  Will you be home mostly or will you have to run some errands?
How do you create one?
~
  • Identify what items you will include based on your answers to the activities you will be doing and what the weather will be like.
  • According to, Style Bee, items you would include are tops, sweaters, pants, dresses, shoes, and coats.  However, this is just an outline, you pick and choose what you want to include to make it work for you.
  • Have in mind a color scheme.  That way you pick out items that will mix n' match together well.
  • Choose items you wear a lot, the ones you feel most comfortable in.  This is best if you are doing a 10x10 for the first time, you can always choose something out of your comfort zone next time.
  • Write down or take pictures of the items you chose.

  • Participating in a 10x10 challenge is sustainable.  Wearing what you already own in your closet is the best way you can help to reduce fashion waste.  According to the BBC, "globally the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, with textile production alone is estimated to release 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year."
  • Helps curb shopping urges.  When you focus on your current wardrobe you are less likely to think about what you don't have and get excited about what you do have.
