Valani: Behind the Brand And Review

Where Did It All Start?

It started with Vanni's vegan lifestyle.  Veganism is a plant-based life built on compassion and respect for everything.  She wanted her clothes and brand to share the same values.  She also had a desire to fill the gap she saw in the sustainable clothing industry, which was that most sustainable brands sold natural-colored, boxy, or boring clothing.   She wanted to make something fun, flirty, bold, and feminine.

How Does Your Clothing Process Work?

Vanni works remotely with her design and development team in Chicago.  All of the garments are ethically produced in Chicago and at a Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified facility in India.  Her partners are fair trade compliant and provide safe working conditions for their employees.  Only non-toxic, low-impact dyes are used on the plant-based fabrics for each garment.

What Inspires Your Designs?

Every piece is inspired by nature and the female body.  They're bold, resilient, and full of intrinsic beauty.  They're strong when they need to be, and soft when it matters most.  It's that movement and strength that inspires the flowy aesthetic and feminine lines with a touch of the ethereal.

Review of the Sitha top:

I typically wear an extra-small or small.  Using the size chart and recommendation online to size down, I chose a size zero.  I like this top because of its details, such as the mandarin collar, faux wrap, and ties on the sleeves.  This top has a relaxed fit, making it perfect for tucking into your favorite pair of high-rise pants or jeans.  Made of 100% TENCEL fabric, it is silky soft, and has a natural shine.  Tencel is hypo-allergenic and moisture-wicking.  Created from sustainably managed eucalyptus trees and made in a closed-loop system reusing water and solvents.  Flirty and fun, this will be on rotation in my spring closet.  You can dress this top up in so many ways, check out my reel on Instagram of me styling this top three different ways.

Review of the Petra pants:

I typically wear a size zero or two.  Using the size chart I chose a size zero.  They fit perfectly!  I like these pants because of how simple they are, yet at the same time, have fun details, like the slight kick crop flare and side slit at the bottom of each pant leg.  These pants are comfortable enough to wear as a work-from-home or lounging outfit.  You could also dress them up for an evening out.  Made of 55% Hemp/ 45% Tencel blend, these pants are soft, flowy, and lightweight.  These blends of materials are moisture-wicking, hypo-allergenic, and block UV rays, which make these pants great for those with sensitive skin and for the warmer temperatures ahead.   Be sure to visit my Instagram and check out my reel to see how I styled these pants in three different ways.

Sustainability:

Each garment is made with biodegradable, plant-based fabrics, never mixed with spandex or polyester.  Right now those fabrics include Tencel, hemp, and banana.  Valani also has low waste initiatives in place, which include making scrunchies out of fabric scraps and strategically designing their patterns for maximum efficiency.  Have you ever wondered what kind of positive impact the product you are shopping for is having on our planet?  On Valani's website, you don't have to wonder, each product page includes stats on the positive impact the garment is having on our planet.

Conclusion:

Valani is a brand that is truly transparent about what they're doing to be sustainable and ethical.  You can shop Valani's collection with confidence that you are doing something positive for the environment.
